Week 4 Outline
0:00 - 0:10
- Weight and Pressure
- Demonstrate the locations of weight and pressure as explained in the video. ~60/40 at setup, ~ 40/60 at the top, and 85+ at impact.
0:10 - 0:45
- Low Point Control
- Give golfers a 12” piece of string. Have golfers put the piece of string tight to the ground and 1 ball width behind their ball position.
- With a 7-iron or so, have golfers take divots in front of the string. Pay attention to their weight location throughout their swing.
- As golfers are successful at hitting the ground in front of the string, have them put a ball down in front of the string, and continue to hit the ball (and ground) in front of the string.
- Note: make sure the string is pretty low to the ground. If it’s sitting up on grass and isn’t very low to the ground, even good swings will hit the string. Also, you can use a spray painted line (miss the line, hit the ground) or a towel instead of string.
- Being able to strike the ground in front of the ball consistently is crucial to hitting the ball solidly for approach shots (SV④).
0:45 - 1:05
- Good Finish, Punch Shot
- Per the video, have golfers practice hitting punch shots with the two checkpoints at finish (waist high):
- “long arms” (elbows not bent, wrists not rolled/hinged)
- “belt buckle forward” (or belly button) - weight forward, but head still relatively centered.
- This further emphasizes the importance of weight location during the swing and particularly the downswing, while also giving golfers a “punch shot” or a “B swing.”
1:05 - 1:30
- 30 Point Game
- Balls must be hit solidly (1 point), start to the proper side of the stick (1 point), and curve the proper direction (1 point).
- 10 balls, possible three points each.
- Do with a partner so they can verify start lines/curve and keep score.
